Slade had just finished up setting up his new command tent. The new site for camp was a bit farther from the city from the last one and Slade had lost a lot of faith in himself. He opened the one book he had managed to save. Everything would have to be remade from scratch, but luckily the majority of information was kept in code in one book. He flipped through the pages but as he thought about the attack that had happened he broke down and threw the book on the desk. Slade fell to one knee and gripped his head trying to pull himself together.

Everyone was in a state of disarray, that much was for certain, but she had never expected to feel a burst of instability coming from one of the two beacons this camp had left. Saika stood outside the command tent, debating silently on whether or not to actual ask to enter. She put on a strong face, stood up tall and spoke. "Slade, is everything alright in there?"

Slade hadn't expected anyone to come in right now. He had expected most mutants to be trying to get their own things in order. He stood up immediatly and tried to gather himself together. "My apologies I did not mean to disturb you. I should have remained stronger for the camp." Slade tried to hold it together, but on the inside he blamed himself for everything that had happened. "Are you okay Saika?"

Saika gave the man a very worried look. She nodded calmly, saying "I'm fine, a little shaken up still, but nothing to worry over." She paused and approached him further in the tent. She could feel that he was putting up a front, but she wouldn't point it out without checking to see if he himself was alright himself. "A better question is are you alright. I can see that you are distressed."

He let out a sigh and walked back into his tent motioning for her to follow. "This wasn't supposed to happen this way. We were supposed to have more time. I wasn't ready for it to be so soon. Everything is different than it should be." Slade picked up the book wiped the dirt off of it. He placed it on his desk which was empty of all other material. "I wrote down everything I remembered but its not the same anymore."

Saika followed Slade back into the tent, listening carefully to every word he spoke. He eyebrows furrowed slightly at his choice of words. "Different? You sound like you've already gone through this before..." She inquired carefully, staring at the book on the barren desk.

"I apologize for not making this anouncement public but I'm actually not from this timeline." He realized that this might be difficult so Slade flipped through the book to the begining of it and read the pages allowed as he decoded his writings. "Day 1: I made it back but had to dig myself out of the ground. It's the same past that I remember within the city. My first steps are being taken to find Dimitri, and then I shall proceed to finding Tomoe and together we will create a haven and training ground for mutants." He closed the book and looked up at her. "I wrote this last year after being sent back in time from 20 years in your future. I've met some of the mutants here before but because that was my timeline they don't know me."

The telepath's eyes widened at the confession. Out of all the possible theories that could have been constructed about Slade, time travel never really crossed her mind. She stood there, taking a second to process all the while wondering if he had met her as well in the future. She shook her head, and looked up at her mentor. "I won't tell a soul unless you want me to." She swore.

He put up a hand to calm her. "It's not a secret. I tell tthe mutants who ask me where I came from. I try not to keep secrets from those who ask. A few already know like Meg. She's actually someone that I used to know. It's sometimes hard to find a face that I knew when it was older. 20 years is a long time." He hoped he could give her an explanation that wasn't too complicated. He was still getting used to being a leader even though he acted like he had done it for years.

Saika let out a sigh of relief, happy that she wouldn't need to walk about with some plot twist worthy secret on her shoulders alone. "I don't think I'll ever fully understand, but I'll try my best." She fiddled with the hilt of her sword when a very concerning thought came to mind. "What's happened in the future that's so horrid that you had to come back in time?"

Slade closed his eyes and remembered the world he had left behind. "I was a weapon of FROGS for many years before my mentor found me. I saw many horrible things. Mutants were either enslaved or imprisoned or executed. We were butchered on sight if we were caught trying to escape. Every mutant was given a collar that was fitted with electric charges that would drop us no matter where we were. I saw a mutant get dropped while it was being Attacked by wolves. The body was never found. Unfortunately that's not even the worst part. Mutants began fighting back any way they could. They didn't care if humans were dangerous or not. The world became filled with killers, men, women, even children were willing to kill anything they deemed a threat."

She shakily covered her mouth in horror at the description. "J-Jesus..." She stuttered out quietly, "...how did you manage to keep your sanity after all that?"

Slade had thought the same thing many times when he remembered the future he had come from. "How do you know I did?" He had gone crazy in his time as a weapon and only after being saved by a FROGS member did he snap back to his senses. "It was a world that couldn't be saved, so my mentor made the ultimate sacrifice and sent me back 20 years to train mutants to defend themselves and to take down the FROGS headquarters. It's going to be quite a feet but I think in time we could do it."

Saika continued to look up at Slade, nodding in agreement. "For what it's worth, I think the thr-" she had to stop herself. Tomoe was gone, there were only two if them to lead them now. "…the two of you will be successful in leading us to victory over the FROGS." She smiled gently, hoping to lift his spirits a little from the horrors of his past and their alternate future.

The word victory echoed in his brain. It seemed like such a far off dream that he feared they wouldn't be able to reach in time. "It's not going to be easy, and its going to take time which will mean more casualties. We have to look out for each other. I can't protect all of you by myself. Jason has helped me a lot already but that's still not enough to take care of this whole camp."
