Alphonse held the book to his chest. Hoping that Sophie would be in the woods, since she was no where else in camp. He felt more nervous with every step he ttook. He just prayed that his friend wouldn't be angry or disgusted at what he wanted to tell her.

Sophie finally found some free time in between cooking to work on one of her many sewing projects. The kids were growing fast and needed new clothes. She was currently stitching the last few lines on the hem of a dress for Jeri. Next to her she was taking in an old shirt Jason had found, so that it would fit the white haired boy she had seen around camp. To entertain herself she was humming softly.

Alphonse continued to search until he spotted her, sewing a shirt. He ran up to her "Sophie!" He smiled, but stopped before he got too close, his confidence already escaping.

Sophie paused in her stitch but still managed to prick her finger. She winced as a little bead of blood welled at the surface. "Al? What is it? What's wrong?" She asked, already fearing a second attack by the way he had shouted her name.

Sophie frowned and quickly gathered up her belongings in her hands. "Then what is it?" Sophie asked. "I thought something happened. No one is hurt are they? Do I need to go back to the kitchen?"

"My book..." Sophie murmured in disbelief. "It survived the explosion?" She set the sewing projects aside and took the book back from him. She smiled as she looked at the cover. "My sister got this for me..." But then she frowned. "What do we need to talk about?" she asked, fearing the answer since their most recent talks have been tense post the explosion.

Sophie bit her lip. She reached out and touched Alphonse's arm. She couldn't deny that she was worried about him. He seemed absolutely terrified. "It's okay. You can tell me anything." she said.

Alphonse laughed half halfheartedly at that "This is h-hard to say." He took a deep breath. He had to say it now before he lost his nerve for good "I l..." He found himself biting his tongue. Why was it so hard for him to say this to her?

Sophie frowned. She didn't know if encouraging him to speak would help or not. She opted to fall silent and wait for him to string together what it was he wanted to says.
