Sophie turned to one of her pots and set it over the fire that had been burning out. She then started to tend to the the wood and make it burn a little brighter. She filled the pot with water in order to boil the rice. "I know this isn't the best work..." she said. "But I really appreciate your help."

"It's no problem, Sophie. I've been needing to help more around here anyways." He smiled at her, finishing up with the meat "It's not the best, but the meat is cut."

Sophie smiled. "Would you mind watching the water? When it boils just add the rice," Sophie instructed before taking the meat and placing it in the skillet that had been heating up over a different cooking station.

Alphonse nodded and walked over to the pot of water and waited for the water to boil "Cooking is kind of easy."

"For the most part. It's... an art. And a chemistry reaction all at once." Sophie said. "You can make food taste wonderful and be very beautiful but the only way to do that is to mix things just right."

"The way you talk about it, it's poetry too." He chuckled and placed the rice in the water once it began to boil.

She laughed. "I doubt it's poetry." she said. "How's the rice coming?" She had gotten the meat to a sizzle and was stirring it the best she could.

Sophie peered over into the pot and smiled. "You're doing great." she assured him. She smiled and went back to her own skillet. "I can't say how much I appreciate this."

"It's not a problem, Sophie." He smiled and continued to work on the rice "I'm happy to help."

Sophie smiled. She left her skillet to start setting out bowls. "When you run off the water use the colander and scoop some rice in each bowl." she instructed.

Sophie finished up the last of her grilling and added a slice for each of bowls. She then brought over some vegetables she had steamed the morning of and added a scoop. "Al, there's a crate of apples under the table," Sophie said, not looking away from what she was doing. She left a few bowls without meat because there were vegetarians in camp.

Alphonse ducked under the table and pulled out the crate and set them on the table "Do the apples need to be cut?"

Sophie shook her head. "I only tend to do that for the kids." she said, particularly since they had loose teeth.
