Namine was curled in on herself on her bed. She could feel the dull ache in her cheek from where one of her guards hit her the other day. Apparently she had stared at him a little too long and he took offense, or he really just hated mutants. She had no idea. She had no mirror so she could not tell that the injury had bruised. In a few hours she would have to go down to the labs for her usual tests. So went her life. She wouldn't get a sketch pad until later in the evening. The monotony was slowly killing her if the guards didn't do it first.

Terry had just finished paying off a guard for time alone with Namine and was making his way down the hall. He was in a pretty happy mood since he had just gotten enough guards bribed so he could take Namine on that walk he had promised her. When he reached her cell he grabbed a piece of candy out of his pocket and threw it into her lap. "Good news blondie. I'm taking you outside today."

Namine jolted into awareness when the candy was thrown into her lap. She looked up in surprise to see Terry. She hadn't seen him in a while so she thought he had forgotten about her. "W-What?" she asked, barely daring to believe that she was actually going to go outside. She got up from her bed, padding her way over to the cell door. Her lithe hands gripped the bars. She hoped he couldn't hear her heart racing in her chest, thudding heavily against her rib cage. "T-Terry?"

Terry held up a small card which opened the door to her cell once he had swiped it. "Let's go look at some sunshine, it's a beautiful day out." Terry stepped into her cell and offered her his hand. He noticed the mark on her cheek and he could guess where she had gotten it. The guards didn't tend to be very careful in their treatment of mutants. Terry had learned a lot about mutants lately, but he found himself still feeling like he was missing something.

Namine looked between him and his hand. Shakily she took his hand. She hoped he didn't comment. She hadn't been outside in years. She had only seen the world through her drawings. To feel the sun against her skin, the grass beneath her feet, wind brushing against her. She had never wanted anything so much before. Her tongue felt like it was glued to the roof of her mouth. She wanted to say something to Terry but she was afraid that if she did she would realize this was a dream or that Terry would change his mind.

Terry smiled reassuringly at the girl as she took his head. He could feel how shaky she was as he helped her up, and let her lean on him for support. "Now I know it's been a long time, so we'll take it slow. I don't want everything at once to overwhelm you." Terry led hear down the halls until the reached an elevator door. Once the elevator arrived, they both stepped in and began going up. Terry looked down at the girl fondly and patted her head. "Now I don't know how long I can keep you out here but I'll try and make it as long as possible." Once the words had left his mouth, the doors opened revealing ad larg rooftop park. There were lots of flowers and grass and the sun was shining brightly.

Namine had to cover her eyes as soon as the elevator doors opened. It was just so bright and warm. Squinting behind the safety of her hand, she could see colors, such vivid beautiful colors. The labs were clinical, a standard white or off shade of grey. The only color she ever tended to see was what the scientists wore on their clothes or red of blood. Namine could feel her eyes growing wet and she wasn't sure if it was from the pressure of the light or the fact she was outside for the first time in over a decade.

Terry looked over at her and could see her eyes tearing up. He had expected such a response from her. He had looked at her records and knew she had never been outside her cell. He assumed the outside world would be a bit much for her. Terry pulled a handkerchief from his pocket and handed it to her. "Here, I have a feeling you're going to need this for the duration of our walk. Terry took one step out of the elevator and into the sunlight. He looked back at her and waited for her to follow him into the light.

Namine's hand curled around the handkerchief. She hesitated and took his hand. Her bare feet padded across the warm ground. She took a shaky breath. This was beyond anything she could have imagined or draw on her own. She looked up at him. She could almost imagine curling up in the sun and just enjoying the feel of it against her skin. She was a bundle of nerves as she walked into the gardened area.

Terry led her through the garden slowly, letting her take in all the sights and sounds of being outside. Eventually they reached a bench with roses curling around the base. "Would yoou like to take a seat for a bit?" Terry had more questions for her but he wanted to wait until she was no longer speechless about being outside. "I know its a lot to take in at once so take as much time as you need."

"O-Okay," Namine said. Once again she had stammered but this time it wasn't due to her usual shyness around others but because she had been so emotionally moved by Terry's kindness. She shivered from the warmth. But she happily sat down at the bench.

Terry sat down next to her and was silent for a while as he let her sit in silence. He knelt down and pulled a daisy from beside the bench and tucked it behind her ear. "There that looks better. A little color is always nice." He smiled at her kindly as the sun beams danced on her hair.

Namine slowly reached up and touched the flower. The petals felt foreign to her fingers. She smiled brightly. She couldn't remember the last time she had felt so much at peace. Even if her time outside was going to be fleeting it was too wonderful. "T-Thank you. Thank you so much." She breathed.

Terry nodded kindly. "Well I did promise, and I always keep my promises." Terry sighed happily and looked to the sky, and as he looked he felt all of his thoughts and doubts creep into his mind. He found himself actually worrying about Namine, and it surprised him. He had never given much thought to the mutants that were being held by FROGS, but this girl he had somehow gotten to him. His smiled faded as he continued to think, but he didn't say anything so Namine could keep the happy moment which was unfolding around her.

She was glad he had kept his promise. She missed his smile because she had leaned her head against his shoulder. She looked out at the garden. This put her drawings to shame. The colors were so amazing, so vibrant, so unlike the drawings she had. Granted, if she had the proper supplies she might be able to get close. "This is..." she trailed off. Perhaps this was better without trying to describe it.
